Payroll Specialist - Temp to Hire
Pay: $33 - $38 per hour (DOE)
Location: Elk Grove, CA
Schedule: Full-Time | Onsite (Hybrid optional depending on client)

Ledgent Finance & Accounting is seeking an experienced Payroll Specialist with strong general ledger and full-cycle payroll experience for a temp-to-hire role with an established employer in Elk Grove. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, values accuracy, and is confident managing payroll and accounting functions with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle payroll for hourly, salaried, and multi-state employees
- Validate timesheets, PTO, overtime, bonuses, and wage adjustments
- Ensure accurate processing of garnishments, benefits, and tax withholdings
- Prepare and post payroll-related general ledger entries
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain employee data, including new hires, terminations, and rate changes
- Assist with year-end payroll duties, including W-2s and payroll audits
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries in a timely, professional manner
- Collaborate with HR and Accounting teams to support reporting and compliance
Qualifications
- 3+ years of payroll experience, including high-volume environments
- Strong understanding of payroll compliance, labor laws, and multi-state payroll
- Experience preparing payroll journal entries and reconciling payroll GL accounts
- Proficiency with payroll systems such as ADP (highly preferred)
- Intermediate Excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality
- Strong communication and customer-service skills
